Is there anywhere I could look and see what is described in 3 Nephi?
“And the earth was carried up upon the city of Moronihah, that in the place of the city there became a great mountain.” (3 Ne 8:10)Where would that mountain be today? Is there anywhere you can find evidence of such an event within 2,000 years? You would think there would be.
Then we read this, “And behold the city of Gadiandi, and the city of Gadiomnah, and the city of Jacob, and the city of Gimgimno, all these have I caused to be sunk, and made hills and valleys in the places thereof; and the inhabitants thereof have I buried up in the depth of the earth…” (3 Ne 9:8)
Four cities buried or sunk in the depths of the earth. Where is the evidence of the hills and valleys covering those cities? There is none I know of.
In Central America you will find a mountain range that is up to 13,840 feet high and many areas that could easily be a “great mountain” and “hills and valleys” but where?
The Caribbean Ocean has islands that are 3,000 to 9,900 feet in elevation. Any one of those could be a great mountain and is not part of a mountain range.
Someone might ask, “what about all of the thousands of mounds built by the “Mound Builders” that were found in the North America? Couldn’t they be the “hills” where cities were buried?”
In all the research and excavation of those mounds, and some are very large, there isn’t any of this kind. They found nothing that would suggest the evidence we are looking for
Then we read this:
“And many great and notable cities were sunk…” (3 Ne 8:14) “…that great city Moroni have I caused to be sunk in the depth of the sea, and inhabitants thereof to be drowned.” And also, “Yea, and the city of Onihah and the inhabitants thereof, and the city of Mocum and the inhabitants thereof, and the city of Jerusalem and the inhabitants thereof; and waters have I caused to come up in the stead thereof…”
If there were many great and notable cities there would need to be more than the 4 cities that are named. I will assume that those cities were in close proximity to each other for all to be sunk into the sea. We don’t really have dots of seas in isolated places.
It’s very interesting to note that one of the cities the city of Jerusalem was in the land of Nephi. The city of Jerusalem is one of the cities that Aaron and his brethren preached in when they went on their mission to the Lamanites in the land of Nephi.
The land of Nephi played such a huge part of the geography in the Book of Mormon and to read that at least part of it sunk into the sea it explains something. The land of Nephi is mentioned 41 times before the events at the coming of Christ but not once after. All other major lands continue to be part of the geography.
Is there any evidence that cities are underwater? Yes there is. A team of explorers working off the western coast of Cuba discovered what they think are the ruins of a submerged city built thousands of years ago.
The Andros Platform is a discovery of a gigantic, three-tiered stone platform just off northern Andros Island in the Bahamas. It was found in 2003 by a diving team doing research on underwater features. The platform consists of three tiers with an area measuring about 1,200 feet long and 150 feet wide. Each tier starts with a row of almost square large blocks measuring approximately 25 by 30 feet. Here’s more about the Andros Platform.
Google images of the bimini road and see what you find.
All in all, it seems that there is no Book of Mormon theory that takes into account any proposed areas or evidence of these fantastic events. Why?
